CRPF Constable Kamlesh Kumari who has been awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously: In 2001 the CRPF jawans averted a major disaster when they repulsed a terror attack on the Parliament. In exchange of fire between the CRPF and the terrorists, all the five militants were eliminated. Mahila Constable Kamlesh Kumari of the CRPF made the supreme sacrifice at the call of duty. The unarmed Kamlesh did not leave the place of duty and alerted others around her about the militants’ movement. In recognition of her exceptional courage and bravery, she was presented the nation’s highest peacetime award ‘Ashok Chakra’ by the President of India on the occasion of Republic Day-2002.
